Kathy Lane, MA,

LPC, BCC, CEAP

I am a therapist and Life Coach.  I work full-time, as a Life Coach for Magellan Health Employee Assistance program and I work part-time as a therapist in private practice.  I am also the mother of two wonderful young men and one beautiful Doxy-Poo.   I got my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri, St. Louis and my Master's Degree in Counseling (with an emphasis in Marriage and Family counseling) from Lindenwood University.  I have been licensed as a Professional Counselor in Mo since 1997.  In addition, i became a Board Certified Coach in 2018.  I have well over 30 years of experience counseling individuals of varying ages  I was one of those people that was fortunate to know , from a young age, what I wanted to do with my life  I fell in love with the idea of helping people during my first psychology class in high school.  It's been a lasting love- one which has evolved and changed over time.  The core belief- that helping others change and grow is what I want to do with my life- has, however, remained the same.

Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to help many different types of people with many different types of challenges.   I purposefully chose to work in many different types of settings and with a variety of populations (children, adolescents and adults) in order to gain experience with many different types of clients and issues.   This included several substance abuse programs (inpatient and out); a private school for children and teens that were divergent learners; psychiatric hospitals; private practice and an Employee Assistance Program.  I believe that many years of diverse experience with many different types of clients has enabled me to become a therapist that can work effectively with clients with many different types of presenting concerns.

What has remained the same is the incredible satisfaction that comes from helping people turn their struggles and pain into their personal triumphs and joy.  One of the coolest things I have learned in my journey is that people are more alike than we are different.  We share certain commonalities that pull us toward each other and towards personal growth and self-actualization.  We share the same emotions.   There aren't that many of them- just varying intensities and different ways of expressing and dealing with them.  Finding healthy ways to feel, express and channel those emotions is part of the growing process for all that want to heal.

Music is one of many tools that we can use to perpetuate our emotional and spiritual growth.  It helps many give expression and reconciliation to experiences deeply embedded in our psyches.  How often do we listen to a song and experience emotions long forgotten?  How often do we play a particular song and notice that our mood changes instantly?  As a young child, I found joy in singing.  i sang every chance I got (much to the annoyance of my older sister).  When I was old enough, I asked for guitar lessons.  I wasn't very good at playing the guitar but I loved doing it because I could sing all of my favorite songs while I practiced.  To this day, if I need a mood change, I know all i need to do is start singing.  It may not solve all of my problems but it will help me believe that all of my problems are solvable.

I am excited to work with Music Moves Us because I believe that music has the power to heal.  I believe in the need for a program like this.  I believe in connecting the dots for struggling individuals- helping them see how music can help them change whatever they want or need to change in their lives.

RN, BSN, CCRN, SRNA

I am a Registered Nurse and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA) with a deep passion for patient care, mental health, and the healing power of music. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) and am currently pursuing my Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), with plans to graduate in May 2027.

I have spent six years working in the intensive care unit, where I cared for both critically ill and patients experiencing mental health challenges. That experience strengthened my commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care and taught me the importance of connecting with patients on a human level.

Outside of nursing, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my dogs and listening to music, which has always been a meaningful source of healing and strength in my life. I believe deeply in the mission of Music Moves Us and am passionate about helping others express their emotions, find connection, and heal through music.
